ThermaGREEN Panels

ThermaGREEN Steel Structures manufactures steel insulated panels (SIPS) for construction. Our system combines the strength of steel with the superior insulating and acoustical values of expanded polystyrene, both of which are 100% recyclable. For Architects, Builders, or Homeowners our ThermaGREEN panel system saves time and money in all stages of design and construction. Owners of our system realize significant energy savings for the life of the building.

Panel Description

The ThermaGREEN system is an innovative, high tech system of construction that can be used in residential, commercial, and industrial projects. The SIP panels have been used in every state and worldwide for the last 30 years.

Our steel insulated panels are made of structural grade, double steel frames bonded with expanded polystyrene (EPS) to make a lightweight, composite panel that has many advantages.

Effective R Values
3 ½" = R-21
5 ½" = R-33
7 ½" = R-45.6

Our panels can be used for exterior & interior walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs. Panels are typically 45-70 lbs. and can be easily handled by a single worker. ThermaGREEN panels are available in 8ft., 10 ft., and 12 ft. lengths and 2 ft., 3 ft., and 4 ft. widths. SIPS are available in 3 ½", 5 ½", and 7 ½" thicknesses. A typical panel uses 24 gauge steel studs, set on either 16" or 24" centers.

Rough openings for doors and windows are formed during the manufacturing process and molded horizontal and vertical chases are used to feed through electrical wiring and plumbing. Any type of cladding can be added to the interior and exterior sides of the panel.

Our connection system essentially eliminates heat loss through seams and transitions. The insulating "R" value of the structure built with our panel remains constant for the life of the structure!

ThermaGREEN Finish Coatings®

ThermaGREEN Finish Coatings come in two types, ThermaGREEN Exterior Finish Coatings and ThermaGREEN Exterior Wall Systems.

ThermaGREEN Exterior Finish Coatings is a textured coating applied directly on finished exteriors and completes systems from foundations up. The textured coatings can be applied over steel, concrete, or wood framing and provides similar appearance as pre-cast/poured concrete and masonry, but considerably less in weight. It is designed to integrate with other existing systems on the same wall(s). The ThermaGREEN Exterior Wall Systems starts with water resistant barriers followed by Insulation Board, Styrofoam Channeling, Mesh Reinforcement, ThermaGREEN Base Coat and ThermaGREEN Finish Coat.

The ThermaGREEN Exterior Finish Coatings, the direct texture finish system, is a fade, weather-resistant finish that is based on an acrylic polymer emulsion. The coatings are flexible and accommodating to thermal expansion/contraction without peeling, chipping, or delamination. Both Sealer Stains and Color Seals are used to ensure surface flexibility and crack resistance.

The base coating is a Type 1 Portland Cement containing polymers. It may be applied by Hopper Spray or Troweling. The appearance of the finish will very depending on color and texture combinations used. Different textures will occur with different tools used as well as who does the actual application. It is very important to remember that each batch of the base coat should be applied in the same manner. Variations in texture and absorption of the base coat will affect the appearance of the finished job. Use of a primer over the base coat is highly recommended to equalize the absorption rate and amount. Provide enough manpower to ensure that cold joints in finish as well as stop-and-start differentiations do not occur.

These systems provide a wide choice of architectural style, color, and texture, while minimizing variance of cost and performance. Material economy and conventional application techniques make these systems ideal for many types of existing structures: Hotels, Motels, Stores, and Shopping Centers, Hospitals, and Light Commercial Buildings. Systems adapt to basic design concepts. The substrate can be used for textured finish, ceramic, thin brick, thin cut tile or stone aggregate.

The system makes the finished location an extremely fire resistant structure and it provides similar appearance to these other systems but at a significant weigh reduction factor, reducing, and structural foundation requirement. Buildings can be closed in rapidly, which allows interior work to progress more quickly.

These good-design practices are for load-bearing and non-load exterior systems with securely attached interior/exterior facings. All details, specifications and data herein are intended as a general guide only. These products must not be used in construction of any structure without complete and detailed evaluation by the assigned design engineer/architect in charge of the project.

Exterior wall systems should be isolated with surface control joints or other means where any wall abuts a structural element, dissimilar wall/ceiling, or construction charges within the plane of the wall. Surface control joint maximum spacing is to be kept at 16" in either direction in either direction. Cement panels should be separated at all surface and building control joints. Where vertical and horizontal joints intersect, the vertical joint should abut it. Splices and intersections should be caulked with a sealant complying with architectural practices and manufacturer recommendations.

ThermaGREEN Finish Coatings® As an Exterior Building Finish/ICF, SIP and Hard Coat EIFF Systems

Today, many architects enjoy the design freedom of stucco-like building finishes. The high performance properties of ThermaGREEN Finish Coatings® make it the high performance finishing system. These properties include the strength and impact resistance of concrete, exceptionally low moisture absorption, total resistance to wind driven rain, high flexural strength and low shrinkage.

Unlike many competitive products, ThermaGREEN Finish Coatings® can be used above or below grade. It can provide a continuous, protective finish over both exterior foundation insulation and exterior wall insulation and can be used with confidence on horizontal as well as vertical systems.

Bonding Additive

ThermaGREEN Bonding Additive

ThermaGREEN Bonding Additive is an acrylic polymer emulsion designed for modifying Portland cement compositions. Mortars modified with bonding additive exhibit increased physical strength and chemical resistance properties. Thin sections dry rapidly and adhere well to EPS (expanded polystyrene foam). Bonding Additive modified mortars are uniform in color and resist discoloration due to sunlight exposure. If color is desired in the wall system, a liquid dispersion colorant should be added to the Bonding Additive.

ThermaGREEN Matrix Bag Mix

ThermaGREEN Matrix Bag Mix is pre-mixed cement, extra-fine mineral aggregate, and other ingredients, blended for maximum strength and durability. Mortars modified with ThermaGREEN Matrix Bag Mix exhibits increased physical strength and chemical resistance properties. Thin sections dry rapidly and adhere well to EPS (expanded polystyrene foam). ThermaGREEN Matrix Bag Mix modified mortars are uniform in color and resist discoloration due to sunlight exposure. If color is desired in the wall system, a liquid dispersion colorant should be added to the Bonding Additive.

Application Instructions:

Mix one 60 lb. bag of Matrix Mix with 1½ gallons of Bonding Additive (acrylic polymer resin)using an electric drill and proper mixing paddle to produce a smooth, lump free mixture. Add Matrix Mix colorant to Bonding Additive if desired.
